Mutron Bi-Phase

Mutron Bi-Phase

This, Ladies and Gentlemen, is a Mutron Bi-phase pedal. Its an amazing phaser pedal made in the 70s and has been used by incredible artists over the years. Smashing pumpkins used it a lot on Siamese dream and it works so well. In particular im thinking about how it layers beautifully on the intro to Mayonnaise.

This is my holy grail!!! And I’ve been chasing one for a while, they come up on ebay occasionally and they are usually priced around $2000 – $3000 USD but they are hard to find in really good condition. Most of the time there is a channel broken or something like that. I’m not a tight ass but im not going to pay $3000+ for something that may not work properly.

It was post jam last week and I was having my weekly rant/whinge about not owning a mutron when my favourite bass player Andrew suggested I google ‘mutron biphase clone’. He knew there would be some crazy bastard out there who had attempted to recreate the biphase sound and he was right.

Please welcome The Prophecy Pi-Phase MK2. I didn’t need much convincing to give this a try, I googled some reviews and listened to samples and I was sold. I picked one up at Derringers in Adelaide for around $600 – What a bargain! It has been sent via mail so now we play the waiting game!
